About Us

Sine I was little I watched my mother create the most amazing cakes and food. When I bake or cook I am in the moment, I feel it, smell it, love it.
Every Aunt in the family made somthing special.  My mom was a all round baker/confectioner.  She baked cupcakes to wedding cakes and her flowers looked as if they were picked from the garden, they were so life like.  Aunty Elizabeth my dad's youngest sister bakes the most amazing bread.  They all baked bread but I always remember her for the bread because she taught me to put fishoil in mine. I was so proud when I eventually made my first Brandt loaf of bread. You see even though my mom was a baker, love her, she was always to busy to teach me anything, but I stole with the eye. That she taught me. Aunty Chrissie, my dad's eldest sister made the best ginger biscuits ever, "oh my sack" they were to die for.  My cousin Anton and I could never get enough of them.  In winter I would sit in her kitchen next to the coal stove with one eye on the tin of ginger biscuits.  I would even help in the kitchen just to swipe yet another ginger biscuit.  Well she gave me the recipe a long time ago and I am now the keeper of the ginger biscuit recipe. I gave Anton some the other night and my, the look on his face when he saw them.  He looked at them, he smelled them before he took a bite.  I think for a moment there he went to heaven. My Dad could not bake, but he sure new how to steal the cake.  The man was a master.  He would walk past , grab a biscuit or cupcake and thne go and eat it in the back yard, because my mother counted everything. The moment you walked into the house she would say it's counted.  There was a time that I thought my name was it's counted, because she would look at me and say it's counted, all the time.  I have a cousin Wayne who might also have thought that his name was "it's counted.  By the way we all went by that name.  My mother, got to love her she put the bake in my soul. Uncle Phillip my dad's youngest brother cooks and bakes, he is always ready to try new recipes and he make fantastic black eyed beans curry.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Aunty Yvonnes chocolate cake, if she does'nt bring one when she comes to visit, we are going to have issues and if you don't eat a slice on the day, you always kick yourself the next day.  I have to get that reecipe. I wonder if my brother, Gerald in New Zealand and my brother Gary in London, has a special recipe, "hey boetas" do you? I do know that Gerald's wife, Charmaine (my sister-in-law) used to make a lekker tart, she called it lazy mans tart, no baking required, but it was delicious. Oh, sorry Charmaine, she makes delicious chicken, oh my (Kentucky se moer).  Very, very nice. LATER
